My Students
I am a special education teacher in Chicago public schools. My students are in 3rd-5th grades. My students have varying levels of ability and varying disabilities.
My students are enthusiastic, inquisitive, and kind.
My students come to school eager to learn and try their best with everything they do. My students enjoy exploring different academic topics and making their own connections to the text through stories and pictures. I want to instill a love of learning in my students which is more possible when we have the necessary supplies and materials.
My Project
My students enjoy listening to different stories and exploring different worlds through literature. Soon we will begin a very exciting unit which is fantasy fiction. Many of my students like fantasy fiction the best. Even though my students are struggling readers, during reader's workshop they love having different stories read aloud to them. We have started to read more short chapter books during this time and the students really benefit from having their own copies so they can follow along. Also, providing them with their own copy allows them to refer back to them during projects, assignments, and assessments.
I am asking for two different novels to meet the different needs of the students that I have in my classroom.
One group will be reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the other group will be reading Magic Treehouse.
