Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our elementary school is a very special place to learn. It's a unique school in that it's very small. Every teacher on campus knows each child very well and everyone works together as a team to help ensure every child's success.
At our school 63% of our population qualifies for free or reduced lunch.
Additionally, most of our students are provided free breakfast each morning as well. 65% of our students are Hispanic, which is above the average for our city.
I'm fortunate enough to teach 28 eager second graders every single day. Regardless of their background, all kids come to school looking for an exciting place to learn.
My Project
My second graders have worked so hard this year! We've written so many stories, and taken so many notes on our reading that we have run out of pencils!
Everyday my kids have to scramble to find a working pencil.
Our school office is completely out of stock. Everyday the kids are telling me that all the pencils are gone or broken. These kids enjoy the simple things in life and when they see new, sharp pencils they get so excited!
My students love writing. Please help by providing us with enough pencils and a good sharpener to get us through to the end of the year!
