Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are energetic, shy, inquisitive 1st graders. Ethnically our school is about 55% Latino, 20% African-American, and 10% Asian, and 5% White. About 50% of my students are English Language Learners of varying abilities, the rest are native English speakers. They attend a Title I, inner-city school in a community oriented neighborhood. My students and their families enjoy participating in school sponsored events.

My students desire to be challenged academically, grow exponentially, and learn mindfully.

In spite of the economic disparities and other difficulties my students face, I believe that they all can achieve greatness.

My Project

My students need materials to grow in their writing skills. Sturdy pencils and pens that don't easily break will maximize their writing time and allow them to tell their stories with minimal disruptions. Chart paper will allow students to assist in creating anchor charts pertaining to different writing skills and remind students of different writing strategies during independent writing tasks. Post-Its will allow my students to jot down small ideas that will later be expanded into 1st grade stories. Being able to provide each of my students with a writing journal will help keep my students' writing in one place and easy for them to manage as young learners.

Quality writing implements, writing journals, Post-Its, and chart paper are necessary materials to provide my students with a positive writing experience.

With the help of these materials and daily practice, my students will grow into avid writers this school year.
