My Project

While teaching STEAM to kindergarten through fifth-grade students, I also focus on helping my students achieve their writing goals. This includes writing informative, narrative, and opinion pieces, but sometimes, this can pose a challenge.

Help me give my students the materials they need to write with pizzazz!

Writing can be a tough task to master - so why not add some flair to a writing project? As my students write, I often let them draw scenes for settings and make their characters for narrative writing using paper, glue, markers, crayons, and tape. For informative essays, we often make posters that highlight the important facts of our essays. For opinion essays - there's nothing better than creating advertisements to help sway the reader's opinion. My students really engage in the writing process when they can bring their essays to life in this way. Additionally, this method allows all of my diverse learners to participate in the writing process as they too can display their thoughts while writing a modified piece. My students also love to display their essays (written on notebook paper using a pencil) beside their masterpieces.
