My Students

My 7th grade students are an amazing and motivated group of learners at a Title I school in Bristol, CT. They are a diverse group of young people from various cultures who all bring something very special to the classroom.

My students are curious about the world and how mathematics relates to life around them.

While learning and doing math, they gain confidence in being able to explain mathematical ideas, and they want to apply their knowledge to questions beyond the textbook. My students inspire me every day!

My Project

This year has brought various challenges that will have a lasting impact on our country and world. My project will add materials to the classroom that will help students see issues of social justice and associated topics through a mathematical lens. These materials include scientific calculators and books on social justice mathematics and related areas.

Students will be able to use mathematics to investigate and question the world around them, helping them to feel empowered and confident as agents of change through this new learning.

This project will enhance students' math experiences while making connections to other disciplines.
