My amazing students live in a rural area, and more than half survive below the poverty line. My class is inclusion; which means I teach students with disabilities along with their typically developing peers. We are a Title I School in an outdated building. The resources that are provided to them through DonorsChoose.org have become invaluable.
I learn as much from my students as they learn from me.
Despite the challenges my students face from learning difficulties and poverty, they continue to have good attitudes. They are eager to learn. I want to fill their space with the tools that help them to have the same opportunities as children in more prominent areas. My students deserve every advantage.
Twenty-first century learning includes having a voice. Employers have conveyed to teachers that students are entering the work force without proper communication skills. They lack the ability to speak in public and present important information.
I want my students to know that the world is their stage.
If they learn to be comfortable sharing information and communicating at a young age, the sky is the limit. This project is so that we can have a stage in our classroom. The stage will be used daily so that students can give presentations to their classmates, perform readers' theater, and simply speak to the room while projecting their voices. Thank you for helping me prepare my students for the twenty-first century work force.
