Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are all in 6th and 7th grade. They work hard for many hours a day, and have adapted to this new way of learning with few complaints! They have overcome many obstacles during online distance learning. They have found moments to laugh, to grow, and to show up for each other, even through Zoom. I am proud and inspired by these brave young minds.
During distance learning, it is more important than ever to cultivate imagination and help students explore the world from the comfort of their homes.
While students have access to stories online, they lack the materials needed to engage in fun and creative projects related to what they read. The materials in this project will allow them to deepen their learning about cultures around the world through creating, building, and making.
My Project
The materials and supplies for this project will be used in students' homes, to accompany an interdisciplinary on monsters and myths from around the world. Students will make Guatemalan Worry Dolls, Flower Crowns from Tahiti, Mexican Mother's Day flowers, Diwali Lanterns, Russian Stacking Dolls, Maasai-Inspired bracelets, and Nigerian Shekere instruments.
Donations to this project will cultivate joy in learning about mythology, geography, and cultures around the world.
The project will enable students to have fun and exciting experiences during the second semester of distance learning. The project will also allow students to switch up their routine and take a break from looking at a computer screen, as they learn by doing and by creating things connected to their studies.
