I am fortunate enough to work with some amazing New York city students; they represent so many different cultures, backgrounds, beliefs, and aspirations. The best part of my job is helping students reach those aspirations, and ensure they know every day that they deserve to have big goals just like everyone else. My students need to know they are worth it, so I continue to work toward equal access for them. So many of my students lack access to new experiences and opportunities to push themselves out of the comfort zone. I hope to change that.
My Project
A group of students and myself will be participating in the Kids N Culture program, and culminates in an 11-day study tour of Thailand. Our curriculum leading up to the tour focuses on various aspects of Thai culture - from language lessons to cooking classes, students will have the chance to learn about where they are going before they even step on the plane.
Students will also have the chance to learn about new culture with each other, from each other.
Students can share their own experiences, cultures, and opinions about the world in a safe space. The goal is for students to have a better understanding of the world so that as a whole, we can move past tolerance and start living with compassionate understanding. This will better prepare our students to succeed in an ever changing world, and combat the prejudices that exist around them.
