Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are just turning 5. For many of them, this is their first experience in a school setting. Some of the students have special learning needs; many are learning English for the first time. The majority of their families live below the poverty line, and rely on our free meal plan for their child's breakfast and lunch.

Our school is a high poverty, Title I school, with high expectations for all.

Each day we practice letters, phonics and sight words. We study science, social studies, and incorporate art daily. At the end of the school day, the children are so excited to see their parents and tell them all the things they did at school. The parents are very supportive, and enjoy spending time with their little ones, reading stories and learning new things.

My Project

Please help my students fund a trip to see children's musicians Greg & Steve! We are very familiar with Greg & Steve's songs because we sing them in the classroom every day.

One of our favorite Greg & Steve songs is the enduring "The World is a Rainbow" which teaches the importance of diversity and how wonderful the world is when we all work together.

Greg & Steve songs are educational. Through the music, children can learn calendar concepts such as months of the year and days of the week. The songs also teach letters, sounds, numbers and counting. The catchy lyrics cement vocabulary and academic concepts so that children retain them as memories all their lives.

There is nothing better than music to promote learning through all the core curriculum areas. In addition to academics, Greg & Steve songs get the children up and moving, as they Hokey Pokey and dance their way to better fitness and health. A trip to see our favorite children's entertainers would be a memorable experience. Your donation can help to fund this wonderful learning opportunity for a great group of children!
