My Students
My students are from a suburban school in Pittsburgh.
The school consists of kindergarten through sixth grade, approximately 400 students.
The children I work with are struggling readers that need to overcome their difficulties with reading. During our time, I remind the students it is always a great day to learn something new! I utilize research based strategies along with humane education lessons to strengthen comprehension skills and support our anti-bullying program.
As John F. Kennedy stated, "One person can make a difference and everyone should try." I search for opportunities to incorporate research based strategies, technology and books about the environment and animals to afford chances to build critical thinking skills and help guide my students in becoming problem solvers.
My Project
All students are in need of the necessary tools to continue to grow as learners. The skills students are taught throughout the day are needed to pass the next test and ultimately the next grade. All of which are a necessary aspect of our school system. It is how our schools measure preparedness for a child's future goals and careers.
Zoe Weils, of The Institute of Humane Education, stated so accurately, "the word becomes what we teach".
As we move through our daily goals and objectives educators must not lose sight of the fact our students are the future of our world. They have the ability to become individuals who can have a positive impact on our world.
The books will be used to help to cultivate this awareness, as well as support comprehension, fluency skills and our anti-bullying program. These books will offer me the necessary tools to teach the daily lessons of kindness, sharing, and listening while building a sense of community.
