Our school is a culturally rich community with thirty-two different languages represented within our student body! Although the students in my class are unique in every way, they all get excited about one thing: learning that involves collaboration, creativity, and technology. The wide spectrum of writing ability and the high number of EL students in my class are what has inspired this project.
Many students are eager to gather more information on the various topics we study in Science and Social Studies.
Students want to learn more about rocks, government, heroes, the life cycle, and various other topics. Although our school is culturally rich, we are technologically poor. My class only gets access to the computer lab once a week for 50 minutes and the occasional use of Chromebook carts. This limited access makes it difficult to incorporate technology into the learning process. It is my hope to eventually have enough Chromebooks to give my students easy access to technology on a regular basis.
My Project
My students love Social Studies and Science. We explore geology through the study of rocks. Students learn about balance and motion, and in the spring we look at the Life Cycle. Social Studies includes learning about heroes, government, geography, and ancestors. All of these topics can be enhanced through the use of technology!
Four Chromebooks will help my students to dig deeper into topics taught in class and to learn the value of taking charge of their learning.
Imagine how engaged students will become as they discover the power of the many research tools that are available for educational purposes! Students love to take charge of their own learning and are inspired by discovering new information with their classmates.
In addition to enhancing Social Studies and Science, the added technology in my classroom will allow students to practice reading and math skills using the variety of programs available, including Google Classroom. My students will benefit in a multitude of ways with the addition of four Chromebooks in our classroom!
