Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Children learn so much from the world around them, not merely from textbooks or schoolwork. I would like to bring the "world" to them so that students know that learning is all around us. It is a life-long "gift" we give ourselves. It would be quite an adventure to be able to take a field trip to places around our world. Since this is impractical, my goal is to demonstrate to my students how they can have access to their wonderful world. No matter what school subject, children can use computers to travel, explore, practice skills, and learn more about themselves and their world.
I teach reading, language arts, and math in a 4th grade departmentalized program. My students are nine and ten year olds. Our school is truly unique in that we have a very diversified student body. Some of our students are hearing impaired, while others have special learning needs. In order to provide the best education for all children, our special-needs children learn alongside our regular education students. This proves to be quite a challenge to meet all their needs, but it is a worthwhile life lesson.
I would like a projector, which could be connected to our classroom computer. Lessons, both teacher-made and computer-generated could then be projected through the computer onto a screen for the entire class to view. There are many websites for teachers that provide reading skills, math lessons, excerpts from famous speeches and videos. What a wonderful way to bring the world into our classroom! Students could use this tool to demonstrate their original Power Point presentations and research. The possibilities are endless.
Along with this projector, I am also requesting a wide roll-down screen onto which we can project the computer image.
A cart to hold the projector and our classroom computer would be an ideal set-up.
With a projector, viewing screen, and a cart to house our computer, our students will be able to become part of our expanding world. They can share information, practice skills, hear the words from famous speeches, work with their classmates to produce their own projects, and experience learning beyond our classroom walls. Learning is for a lifetime and it can be fun!
