My students need 4 tablets with cases in order to enhance their learning and eventually be able to compete in a job market where computer literacy is a must.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
How many times a day do you get online to research a topic, check an email, or even read up on the daily news? Technology today has taken a front seat in everyday life and just as our students need to know how to read and write, they must also be functional and savvy on a computer.
My students are mostly English Language Learners who attend a technology magnet, with very limited resources.
Their access to technology is limited to visiting a computer lab every 2 weeks. My students are enthusiastic learners and love to use technology in their learning process. As well as using technology, my students also love to read, so why not combine both components into their learning?
My Project
Receiving Kindle Fires would positively impact my students and enhance their learning. Downloading free or cheap books onto their tablet will make reading fun and different for my students, even those reluctant learners who need further motivation. Also, the Kindle Fire will allow my students to use educational apps and will turn learning to read and solving math problems into a hands-on activity. My students will also be able to read ebooks without the worry of tears or missing pages, which happens often in a first grade classroom.
What 6 year old would pass up a chance to sit and "play" for 20-30 minutes on a tablet?
Using technology as a resource for learning is a great way to capture students' attention. Access to this technology is only a stepping stone to learning to use other types of technology, but will also open great doors for them. Kindle Fires will make learning fun for my students.
