My Project
Our classroom is a place of learning, play, and friendship. My kindergarten students love to explore the world using all of their senses. They believe in everything, they dream big, and they work hard to be kind and diligent students. All-day kindergarten is a difficult adjustment, so lessons filled with coloring reflections, dance breaks, and cutting and gluing activities are a necessity!
As famed child psychologist Jean Piaget put it, "Play is the work of children." Our classroom would benefit greatly from a sensory play experience.
The materials I have requested would enhance our study of letters, sounds, and senses. I envision groups of students tracing letters in sand, building words and numbers out of Play-Doh, segmenting words with collapsing pipes, and manipulating numbers with bear counters and pop frames.
To close, a quote from my role model and inspiration, Mister Fred Rogers: "Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning."
