My Project

Teaching and exposing young learners to gardening holds a significant teachable moment even for our young learners. Our school wide initiative is to teach and inspire our leaders to learn about the importance gardening plays in our daily lives. Student leaders are learning as young as Kindergarten all about how to make our bodies healthy and strong. Gardening is not just about planting seeds and watching them grow. It's all about connecting to nature and the importance that nature has on society and community.

My goal for this school wide project is having student leaders connect with nature understanding the environment, and building a strong understanding of cultivating and harvesting.

There are science components infused while we teach our young leaders these life skills about the process of gardening.This has such a positive impact as our students become responsible having different roles that they can play to help our garden live and grow. All of our students are so special because they look forward to outside learning and are so engaged while being exposed to our gardening initiative. As we dig with our raking tools into our garden beds and nurture our plants, we all become stewards and scholars of the Earth. This puts smiles and excitement on each students face. As we grow as a school, learning about ecosystems and the beauty of diverse plant life, this will be a memorable learning experience for all. This is a hands on lesson for every leader in my building and consequently they will learn about sustainability. Gardening is a sense of both physical and mental well being and the act of tending to plants will bring joy to my leaders seeing first hand their efforts blossom into nutritious vegetables that can be eaten to improve our health and well being
