My Students
Do you remember your first school experience? Perhaps you have just sent your own little one off to pre-k? Nothing makes me smile more than thinking about those fun and engaging classrooms filled with excited little learners.
I have the joy of working with an exuberant, energetic group of pre-kindergarten students in urban Title I schools.
As a special educator, I support several inclusion classrooms so all students with a variety of needs are able to learn together. Each day is an exciting adventure for our little learners!
My Project
I work with many special needs students who have sensory needs. These needs often keep the students from engaging in instructional activities. One great way to meet these sensory needs is to provide the student with a weighted blanket or pad. It sounds so simple, but having a weighted blanket or lap pad on them to provide deep pressure enables them to receive the sensory input their body needs. Their brain is then able to concentrate on learning instead of their sensory needs.
Inclusive classrooms are all about providing for students' needs so ALL students have an opportunity to learn in a typical classroom with their peers.
This project will provide the materials to help us meet those sensory needs in our students.
