They are growing and learning in a small, tight knit, school community much like the one that inspired me to become a teacher. They are dreamers, thinkers, talkers, and questioners. They are over comers and will make better lives for themselves. They are mini inspirations to themselves and others around them, even if they don't realize it yet. They are budding ambassadors, world travelers, scientists, entrepreneurs, teachers, etc. They are our future and I want to give them a great start to their long successful career. Thank you so much for your consideration.
As a grade level we want to share this amazing book with our students. This book by R.J. Palacio touches on themes such as bullying, family, friendship, leadership, acceptance, love, and what it means to be "different". We anticipate great discussions revolving around these very relevant topics. Although we will use this book to teach and review a number of reading standards such as point of view, character traits, theme, etc. We also hope that our students will walk away from this novel study with important life lessons such as not to judge someone based on his or her appearance, that being different is okay, the power of words, and to always CHOOSE KIND!
