Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are inquisitive, creative, and enthusiastic learners. They have a passion for literature and a hunger for social justice. They live in a low income and densely populated community. They are English language learners, whose parents have limited resources. Yet despite these challenges, they are eager to learn about the world around them. The classroom is a place where children can engage in indepth discussions about topics like bullying, discrimination, and social responsibility. These are topics that my students want to tackle.
My Project
I am requesting 30 copies of the book Wonder by RJ Palacio. Wonder is a story of kindness, tolerance, and courage. I plan to use these books during virtual read aloud, literature circles, independent reading, and class discussions. We will tackle issues of bullying, personal responsiblity, empathy, and making a positive difference in the world through our daily interactions.
Distance learning is a unique challenge for everyone.
Being able to hold a physical book in your hand and turn the pages, is something that should not be lost to the pandemic. Please help my students get their own copy of this inspirational and uplifting story!
