Through rigorous academics and character education essential for success, Milwaukee Excellence Charter School educates students to excel within and graduate from four-year colleges and to pursue the professions of their choice. At Milwaukee Excellence, every student can and will succeed when given a rigorous, college preparatory education. Graduates will carry with them the character traits informed by our FIRST values of Focus, Integrity, Respect, Self-Determination, and Team; and the scholarly habits necessary to navigate their personal lives while attending college. Students will be prepared to capitalize on all life has to offer.
Our students live on the north side of Milwaukee where, historically, there aren't many choices for middle and high school students to attend school.
Some of the brightest students in the world are at my school and if they didn't have the opportunity to come to Milwaukee Excellence, their light may not have been shown. Our school believes in the possibility of our students future. This project helps each and every one of my students learn coping skills and pushes students to grow into the amazing person they are meant to be.
My Project
I am the first school social worker at the very special school, Milwaukee Excellence Charter School. As the first social worker, I need to stock up on the basic social, emotional, and academic needs my students experience on a daily basis. The items I selected for this project are self regulation tools that will help students cope with trauma and changes they are experiencing as are learning and growing. Students will be given stress balls/ fidget toys to help self regulate, I will use the white board for my mindfulness small group lessons, and the coloring book is a great way to help student meditate and remain calm.
My goals is to ensure every student know their worth, importance, and beauty in this world.
Using these tools, I will help them see the strength they have inside of them. First, my students need basic self regulation and coping skills in order to be the best they can be. Milwaukee Excellence Charter School is a school built on unbreakable bonds and a future of possibilities for our students, families, and the Milwaukee Community. I have a room called the WIN room. WIN stands for "What I Need". In this room I have warm lighting, decorations, and bean bag chairs to help students feel safe and comfortable.
