My Project

As an educator, I aim to enhance literacy, foster a love of reading, and stimulate imagination and critical thinking among our young learners. Reading proficiency is a critical component of academic success and lifelong learning. Engaging in age-appropriate literature can significantly improve students' reading skills and their enthusiasm for books. "The Wild Robot" is a captivating story that combines elements of adventure, STEM, and nature, making it an ideal choice to inspire and engage 4th graders. It is important for each child to have their own copy of the book to allow for classroom discussions, individual reading, and family reading time. Additionally, we will develop complementary activities and lessons around the book to deepen students' comprehension, build on STEM connections, and further their enjoyment of the novel.

Goals and Objectives:

Improve literacy skills by providing engaging reading material

Foster a love of reading through high-interest literature

Enhance critical thinking and comprehension through classroom discussions and activities based on the book

Encourage family involvement in reading

Make connections to STEM, specifically to science and technology

My students are super special because they enjoy having a shared text to read as a whole group, or with a partner. They appreciate the picture books and novels offered in our class library and look for ways to add to the variety of genres. My students use a check-in/check-out system to keep track of the books, and are responsible in returning them quickly to allow others to read them. They have benefitted from reading novels in class this year by winning Accelerated Reader awards and demonstrated continued growth in their comprehension skills.
