My Project
My kindergarten students love to retell stories from great books we read together and pretend to be the characters in our history and science lessons. Giving them access to paper, bags, glue, tape and other craft supplies to design their own puppets will give them opportunities to interact with ideas and reinforce topics studied in class.
My students are joyful and funny and so smart, and creating puppets gives each individual child a chance to analyze details and build on what they can recall from our group lessons.
With donated supplies they can make their versions of favorite book characters to retell and embellish stories in our puppet stage. They can imagine and interact with paper bag puppet heroes like Betsy Ross and George Washington and community workers. They can wear a hat and be a frog or butterfly or spider. They can make a puppet mounted on a cup to use with our coding rolling robots. Having puppet making materials can make learning fun for my students.
