This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Every year I am expected to teach a United States History curriculum that has a very slanted perspective of the creation of the country. Every year, I make sure to include perspectives of minority individuals when teaching. Over the past couple years I have come across some wonderful nonfiction literature designed to give younger learners a fuller understanding of the perspectives that are left out of traditional United States curriculum.

This coming year, I would like to have the proper nonfiction texts to supply my entire class with access to learning all perspectives of the history of the United States of America.

By having a separate text for each student, they will be able to interact with the material at their own pace by having the opportunity to bring books home to continue their reading.

I want to encourage my students to be critical thinkers who do not just rely on one text or source to make decisions about how the look at the world and its history. I would like them to know that it is always essential to look at all perspectives and notice when only one is being promoted.

My vision is to grow strong leaders and changemakers for a brighter, more inclusive future for the citizens of the United States.
