This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Coming back to in-person learning from the pandemic, has been an eye-opening experience as an educator. This year, more than ever, the challenges and different needs that students come to school with, have become more obvious. Many students' physical, emotional, and health have been impacted over the last two years. Many students have experienced trauma and many others have high levels of anxiety. For many students, school has been their safe place and haven from the isolation they experienced these past two years.
With the summer approaching, I want students to still have opportunities to continue working on their physical and emotional health while not at school.
Students have made significant progress during this difficult school year. The gift cards will be issued to the top 3 winners of a math competition we've had all semester. Gift cards will also be awarded as incentives/rewards for students who have met certain criteria (academic, meeting university requirements, attendance, improvement, and behavior) by the end of the school year. These gift cards will provide students an opportunity to indulge in a treat over the summer. The water bottles will allow students to make healthier choices and drink water and stay hydrated. The drawstring bags will be useful if they go out for walks, go to the park, or play sports and the card games will be an opportunity for them to continue socializing by engaging in some game nights with their friends and/or family. The exercise equipment will be used in class for students to destress and work on their physical health during their spare time. Many students at this stage, have self-image issues and this is one way that they can work on improving their self-image.
