I teach in a small elementary school in Maryland. We have 3 kindergarten classes in the entire school with a total of 45 students. Our students come from very diverse backgrounds, but do not often leave the communities in which they live. Our school is the core that connects the three communities that make up our student population.
Our students are excited to be able to go on their second and final field trip of the year. We have selected to go to the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. The National zoo has many unique and interesting animals for our students to see. However we will be unable to take our students to see these wonderful and unique animals if we can not find a way to pay for the bus.
Our students need the funds to pay for the bus to take us to see amazing animals at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. The students will use their experience at the zoo in order to create an animal book and describe the life cycle of an animal. This field trip will help inspire our students to read and write more about a topic of interest to them. It will also boost their science skills because they will observe real life animals instead of having to just look at pictures of animals.
One of the best ways for a child to learn is to experience something first hand. People remember "20% of what we hear, 30% of what we see, 50% of what we see and hear, 70% of what we see, hear, and say, and 90% of what we see, hear, say, and do!" Please give our students the chance to remember 90% of what they see, hear, say, and do by helping us get to the zoo.
