My Students
Students at our school are coming from a mostly rural background. We are a large school and with that, comes certain struggles. The number of students that we have limits what we can do, based on cost. The 2nd-grade students are eager to learn and LOVE getting their hands involved. They are bright and fun-loving kids.
Being creative and thinking outside of the box is something they love!
We love providing them hands-on learning experiences as much as possible! Whether it is classroom learning, field trip experiences, or special guests, we try to help them EXPERIENCE the real-world learning that they are doing.
My Project
Miss Loretta brings a world of butterfly knowledge to the class. She teaches the students about the parts of a butterfly and even has a student dress as a butterfly for a concrete visual.
She brings in a pop-up tent and allows the students to enter in and experience the butterflies.
They get up close and personal with the winged creatures. Miss Loretta has them hold a cotton swab with juice and watch as the butterflies land and drink from the cotton swab using their proboscis... which the children can see!! It's AMAZING!!
Finally, students leave with a caterpillar, food, and a bug catcher house with a magnifying glass. They are able to take it home and watch the whole process of metamorphosis unfold!
