This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The underpinnings of a kindergarten classroom are not glamorous, but without them our days would be filled with challenges that take adult attention away from student learning and could soon put our classroom in disarray. My students eat breakfast in the classroom, without paper towels and Clorox wipes our day is more challenging. Hand sanitizer and Kleenex help us all to stay healthier. Laminating pouches help us save paper and provide interactive center materials. Noise cancelling headphones assist the children who have sensitive hearing.
We will be asking families to donate the needed supplies for the school year.
This will be financially challenging for most of our families, as 94% of our community live below the national poverty line.
In the past we have been able to provide a learning environment that is beautiful and welcoming, we strive to continue to do so. Most of my classroom resources will still be available as they are not consumables. Once I started to think of the supplies that my classroom uses, that would no longer be offered, it quickly became clear that it amounted to a lot more than copy paper. Hence the underpinnings became more evident. The supplies requested in this project not only keep the classroom clean, but also foster a shared responsibility in maintaining our beautiful classroom.
