Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a K-5, Title 1, STEAM integrated school that values project and problem based learning, real world connections, fieldwork opportunities, and 21st Century skills. Our school serves approximately 340 students and will always be small, because it allows our children and adults to form close relationships that challenge and nurture each child as an individual. Class sizes are kept at 24 students or fewer to support each student’s unique personality, interests, and needs.

When our students face a challenge, it is with great grit and spirit.

They are incredibly creative, resourceful, and fun. They also work hard to collaborate with kindness.

My Project

After spending a day at a local garden thinking about peaceful and joyful spaces, our kinders have decided to make several barrel gardens to beautify our playground, to feed our classroom pets, and to learn about how things grow.

In engineering, students will play around with the idea of moving and controlling water before designing a, Rube Goldberg inspired, wacky watering system for each of the barrels.

We will use up-cycled materials, funnels, pipes, and more in our final iteration. We will also try to include as many movable parts as we can. This project will develop money and measurement skills, teamwork and collaboration, and tons of physics.
