My Students
California's students face one of the biggest challenges in education: lack of funding. Our Photography program does not receive any funding from the school or the district. All of our funding comes from parent donations and the rare grant. We are hoping Donorschoose.org can help too!
Our High School is in California in a quiet community in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Many years ago Prop 13 classified our school district as a "rural" district. Consequently,our district does not receive as much funding as from the state as it should. Since that time the community has become accustomed to relying on itself for funding education. We do our best to pass bond measures and parcel taxes.
The Photography program draws students who are not afraid of a challenge. They learn about traditional black and white photography with a classic darkroom experience. The biggest challenge we face in this program is to keep it supplied with all the consumable materials B&W photography requires as well as replace broken equipment.
My Project
My students need four tripods for our Photography and Advanced Photography programs. We currently have three tripods that are quite worn. I want to acquire tripods for our classroom since we only have three for around 100 students to use in and out of class. Those three are rather worn out since they are used multiple times a day. A tripod is a necessary piece of photographic equipment, especially when students are studying the effects of movement in photography.
The specific tripods I'm requesting are of an excellent quality and should last quite a while when properly cared for.
One of the biggest challenges we face in education is adequate funding.
I love teaching this classic medium to young people and having proper equipment is essential to their learning.
