My students need Time for Kids magazine so that they can read about current events. This will help us to have authentic conversations about real world topics, often topics covered in the adult version of Time.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My kids...Gosh do I love them! They are such a special group of children who have faced so many different obstacles at the young of age of 11 or 12. My students live in a community in Baltimore where 99% of them qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch and about 1/3 of them are English Language Learners.
Even though they may have challenges to face outside of the classroom, they ALWAYS come in to the classroom eager to learn.
They inspire me to work harder.
My Project
By providing Time for Kids for my students, they will be able to read about current events on a consistent basis. Then we will be able to have academic conversations around topics that are written for kids by kids.
Time for Kids will not only engage my students in the happenings of the world, but it will also empower them to speak with confidence and conviction around topics that matter in their lives.
My students will read Time for Kids each week to learn. They will also use it to write about different topics that pertain to their lives. This magazine is an extremely useful teaching tool that all of my students will be able to access.
