My Students

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world" - . Nelson Mandela My students are eager to learn new skills and become independent learners. They especially love all things relating to modern technology.

My students come from different walks of life, and from different cultures.

This allows for an exciting and diverse learning environment. It also provides great opportunity for students to have a more tailored learning experience, as they choose their own projects based on their interests. My school is the only middle school in Naugatuck, CT. Therefore educators, such as myself, carry much responsibility to provide the best education we can. I believe that offering rigorous, varied and exciting activities is of vital importance. All of my students deserve these wonderful privileges.

My Project

My students are developing at a fast pace. There are concepts that an adult will grasp immediately, that adolescents find too abstract to understand. Ideas such as 3 dimensional drawings and design are some of those concepts. My students need a 3D MakerBot printer to help their understanding of 3D modeling. I currently teach 3D modeling in Google Sketchup. This is a wonderful piece of software that has huge educational and mental health benefits. My students work on a project, where they have to design a cell phone case that will meet the needs of a cellphone user. This exciting project incorporates measurements (math), so that the phone will fit inside the case, but not be too big. The design aspect must be precise so that phone's controls are usable, and meet the customers' requirements (engineering). We will also discuss the most suitable type of material with which to make the case (science). The logo design and production, using the 3D printer introduces the technology piece.

I've been eager to bring 3D printing into my school for a long time.

This opportunity is wonderful, and will allow for a very realistic and meaningful experience for my students. In past projects, students 3D designs have been limited to a computer screen. Although they loved using the Sketchup software, I firmly believe that seeing their designs come to life before their eyes will increase their interests and engagement and help them become real stakeholders in their own education.
