My Project

The idea behind the Thinking Classroom is to break away from the traditional-looking classroom. This will encourage independent thinking as well as collaboration of small groups.

The bar height tables and vertical Dry Erase Boards will allow students to stand while working in small groups which leads to greater engagement (Liljedahl).

Because the look of the room is not traditional, students are less likely to shut down out of routine or boredom. Participation in learning will increase which will benefit both students and teachers.

With more engagement that would mean a reduction in behavioral issues. By having students stand, movement will increase, causing a decrease in off task activities. This will also encourage more positive peer interactions, which then becomes a life skill of learning to work well with others that can transfer to all aspects of their current life as well as to their adult life.
