My students need class sets of No Fear Shakespeare's version of The Tempest. No Fear Shakespeare helps them understand the complicated language of the play, so they can connect to Shakespeare's universal themes.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are awesome young adults from low/working class neighborhoods. They're struggling readers who need a reason to love reading.
These kids are motivated to make their future better, and together we can help them make that happen.
My students are constantly amazing me. Despite a tough neighborhood and less-than-ideal conditions for most of them, they work hard, grow, and go of to colleges and universities with dreams of making a better life for themselves and their families. I want the best for them, and I know that great literature can expand their imagination, heighten their empathy, and broaden their possibilities.
My Project
We want to add the magical play The Tempest to our junior Honors English curriculum. These class sets of No Fear Shakespeare will help students understand the complex language in the play so that they can understand and internalize the bigger themes of forgiveness, unconditional love, and drama as allegory that are among the many others Shakespeare's final play has to offer.
No Fear Shakespeare helps ESL students connect to Shakespeare's timeless and important themes, and can spur them to a love of literature.
The play also has motifs of colonization that mesh well with our curriculum about immigrant experiences and isolation in a strange land - all concepts our school's population can identify with. Our hope is to expand upon the concepts of the textbook using the words of the greatest writer of all time!
