My Students

Benjamin Franklin once said, "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." Students need to be involved in their learning so that they can take ownership of what they are doing. Students need to get their hands "dirty" by using them to research, create, and make learning meaningful. I will teach about 20 eager, energetic third grade students in my classroom this year. We are a CEP, Title I school which means 100% of our students participate in the free lunch program. All of our students are eager to learn and need experiences that they do not get at home. Many of our children come from single-parent homes.

Our school is in close proximity to a major military base; we serve many students who come from active and retired military families.

We want parents to associate school with love, learning, and caring. We would like to change parents' points-of-view from the negative experiences they may have had as children to be able to see the positive experiences we provide their children with rich literature and unforgettable activities.

My Project

The Happy Go Teach conference will provide me with the opportunity to collaborate with teachers across the country! I can’t wait to use the knowledge gained from attending this conference in my own classroom. Happy Go Teach focuses on teachers who are passionate about teaching and want to keep up with the 21st Century learner! This includes incorporating hands-on activities, technology and social media, and connecting and learning with other positive and forward thinking educators to better meet the needs of my students!

This conference will be nothing short of two energetic and motivational days full of active participation and practical application of the essential skills of the 21st century; creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, content innovation, and confidence.

Jen and Kayla, the co-facilitators, like to think of this as a #flippedPD. This two day conference is totally aligned with 21st century teaching and learning expectations. What does that mean exactly? It means, no sit’n’get PD at the HaPpY Go TeAcH conference. My time there will be designed, delivered and created in real-time formats, structures & protocols that I will easily be able to replicate in my own classroom.

The co-facilitators believe that together we are stronger, in the classroom everyone is a learner and everyone is a teacher, and that teachers have the power to change education for the greater good and #makeadifference in the lives of students every single day!

Jen Jones is a 22 year veteran that has served as a reading specialist and an RTI coordinator. Ms. Jones is just one of the main speakers. She will teach on small group instruction, specifically Guided Reading instruction. Learning from a reading specialist will help ensure I give my students the best education possible. My goal is to make my students well prepared for the various state tests and assessments that will be given starting in third grade and above.

The Happy Go Teach conference is going to be a once in a lifetime experience and I am extremely excited to attend! This conference will allow me to continue my self-growth as an educator and provide me with many new and engaging ideas for the classroom!
