My young students are eager to learn, explore, and share ideas; they have huge hearts and want to help their friends discover new things too! Our school was built in the early 1960s, and our classroom is reflective of the building's age. Though my little friends are excited to come to school and to learn, they lack the resources they need to be the best they can be!
As a teacher at a Title I school devastated by Hurricane Irma, I expose my students, many of whom are socioeconomically disadvantaged, to opportunities that they would not otherwise have.
My students need exposure to learning opportunities for academic, social, emotional, and physical growth. Many of my students come from disadvantaged homes and do not have access to the supplies they need. Our island community is small and, in many ways, my students live sheltered lives. Aside from the evacuation, many of them have never even seen the world outside our island community. The desire of the kids to learn is evident despite our limited resources but would be truly enhanced with the resources provided by your generous donation.
My Project
Walt Disney famously said, "If you can dream it, you can do it." As the statement boldly inspires its listeners, education should equally encourage its learners.
Education must provide more than just academic knowledge; it must inspire creativity, bolster confidence to succeed, and prepare students for the future.
Research states that project-based learning provides opportunities for academic growth and can also instill an entrepreneurial spirit within students. To most effectively plan project-based learning activities, however, teachers must have a firm grasp on the concepts that are to be taught and should feel confident in delivering new material to students.
To grow as an educator, teachers need curriculum, resources, and materials for professional development. For this project, I will learn more about financial literacy through the purchase of curriculum and digital textbooks on teacherspayteachers.com. For professional development and for long-term use, I will print and bind the digital material using cardstock, lamination pouches, page protectors, and printer ink. Financial literacy is an important life skill for students! Help me get the resources I need to develop as a professional so that I can support my students in learning this critical lifelong skill!
