This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have recently moved into a newly remodeled school and the school year is off to a great start. Although they are surrounded by beautiful architecture they are lacking technology. I need my students to have access to 21st century technology so they are set up on a path to reach their goals.
I teach in a predominately Hispanic school that was started two years ago and has grown a grade each year.
My students are 2nd graders who are currently the oldest in the school. They have a Spanish class every other day and the school emphasizes the importance of being bilingual. We also strongly integrate preparing them for college by adopting a college name for each class and being transparent about their journey to get to college. My students are taught core character values starting in Kindergarten and I can see my 2nd graders living them out every day in the ways they treat themselves, others, and their work. They are kind, enthusiastic, motivated children who want to learn.
My Project
These tablets will be used primarily in reading and math stations. At our school we use a curriculum design called the Daily 5 which allows for students to access text in many ways. Students will use these tablets in the "listen to reading" station in order to develop their fluency skills.
Additionally, the tablets will be used in math stations where students will practice their math fact fluency with many different games. Students can also use the tablets to play on apps that allow them to apply the math skills they learn with me during small group time.
With these tablets my students will gain skills in many subjects.
First, they will be able to access books and text in many different ways including having stories be read to them to increase their fluency. Second, they will be able to play math games that assist them in their math fluency and application of their math skills. Third, my students will gain skills with tablets and 21st century technology which are skills that are essential to be competitive in our rapidly advancing world.
