My Students
The constant challenge facing California's students is funding for equipment and materials that meet current standards in areas such as technology.
Unlike many surrounding communities,the students who attend our high school grow up in a quiet and safe environment where support for education is common place.
However, like all California communities, the students at our school often miss out on opportunities to utilize current technology in the classroom. While technology is present in some classrooms, it is not present in all and closing this gap is essential to meeting the needs of all students.
My Project
We are requesting an iPad to be used in both Art and Photography classes. Tablets in Art classrooms are extremely efficient educational tools. While a student is learning to draw, they can instantly access reference material at their desk. If a student needs inspiration for their Ansel Adams report, they can immediately see his work and biography on the high resolution screen.
Tablets are very helpful to use as an instrument for presentation when paired with the classroom computer. I can move about the room while presenting a lesson instead of being tethered to the classroom computer. The presentation itself can be made on the tablet using the latest programs such as Keynote or Numbers.
Our school has two mobile iPad carts for teachers to check out for the day and most teachers have a classroom iPad for everyday use.
My Art classes were not equipped with any of this technology for everyday use during the initial ordering 3 years ago. Now that the money is gone, I'm turning to the Donors Choose community to help us get going in the right direction.
