This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever wanted to write and couldn't because you did not have the right supplies do it? My students feel that way all the time.
I currently have 26 Kindergarteners from a very low socio--economic area in California.
They are a bright, well-behaved bunch who has a high motivation to learn. They love hands-on activities and are up for a great challenge. They are looking forward to mastering every standard with pride.
My Project
My school does not supply the big pencils my Kindergarteners need to help them write so I have to purchase them myself. They also do not supply an electric pencil sharpener. I am constantly having to sharpen pencils manually and my time could be better spent planning and teaching.
I think it is the little things in life that make a difference.
To my Kindergarteners, it is a sharpened pencil so they can write or other writing tools to help them remember how to write a good sentence. If my students get the supplies they deserve, I know that they will use them to the fullest and produce great results.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
