The Sun Will Always Shine After the Rain

Help me allow my students to heal by addressing any past traumas suffered during tornados or hurricanes. Students will use yoga practices, read informative books addressing their feelings, and learn about what causes severe weather.

My Project

Many times severe weather causes intense anxiety and fear in people, especially children. Many times you don't have to directly experience bad weather to have anxiety or fear of it. Children have more access now than ever to what's happening in the world right at their fingertips. Each generation of children is more technology savvy than the next.

Here in MS, there has been a significant loss of life through severe weather.

Many students relocated here from Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina. Students still know about Hurricane Katrina even though many of them were just babies during that time. The post-traumatic stress of that hurricane will forever live on. Students heard about it and read about it. Just last year the entire town of Rolling Fork, Mississippi was literally wiped away after a horrendous tornado.

Children must be educated about severe weather, and above all else be able to cope with the anxiety it brings.

I feel that knowing more about why you feel the way you do when bad weather arises and how to accommodate those feelings will help children so much more.

The materials in my project such as science kits, Yoga mats, books, zipper pouches, etc. will educate and help students soothe those fears.
