My Students

Arredondo Elementary is a title I school and 90% of the population qualifies for free or reduced lunch. Many of our students come from a single parent family who juggles having employment or having to work odd hours. Arredondo is able to offer them two meals per day, a safe and focused education and a staff who sets the expectations high while also creating relationships with the students. Our students deal with many outside situations but still manage to do their personal best at school.

My Project

I chose chapter books that would promote learning during the summer months. A low percentage of our students will continue learning after school is out for summer. This is due to lack of financial ability, not a lack of passion for learning.

Our school environment strives on AR competition from class to class, as well as school wide.

I want to give students the tools to read during the summer and return to school and be proud to start the year off strong with comprehension points.

Often times, the learning process will stop during the summer because kids are not reading. The books I chose are specific to their hobbies and interests which will excite and engage their interest in summer reading.
