Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are amazing, but I know every teacher says this about their students. But they truly are amazing and overall, resilient. My students are considered at-risk youth and most of them will be the first in their families to graduate from high school. Even with the COVID-19 shelter and quarantine resulting in our school having to close its doors, they are fighting to complete their work. Most of these students do not have a computer or internet access at home, but have shown strength and motivation to get that access.
My students are gritty, resilient fighters with the self-motivation to learn knowledge even with all the challenges they face outside of school.
They need these resources to overcome this obstacle of not being able to be in school, with the access to teachers, community resources and each other. They can know that their school supports them in this time of need and will meet them every step of the way to be able to face this roadblock. For many of my students, this is their second, third, or even last chance at being able to graduate high school. Please help them. For most students, school is their safe place.
My Project
Help my students gain remote access learning as many of them are unable to access a computer or internet to continue their education. Help them know that there are people that want them to succeed in life and become another stereotype or statistic.
They will be able to receive support from their teachers, classmates, counselors and our community resource liaison.
They will be able to overcome the challenge of poverty limiting their education; especially for those that are seniors and trying to graduate with the class of 2020. Please don't give them the chance to fall in-between the cracks like they have in their traditional schools, help them succeed!
