Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Teacher, teacher. I can do the takeaways by myself now!" is a quote that resonates with me as I gleam with pride. Teaching students with moderate/severe disabilities has not been easy, but it has been the most rewarding experience of my life! My students are in 9th/10th grade and are enrolled in my moderate/severe Intellectual Disabilities (ID) self-contained class. This class may provide them with a more controlled environment, but it definitely hinders their real world experiences.

This year, my mission is to provide my students with as many opportunities for vocational and community based instruction.

My goal is that students will learn more about their career goals and dwell in them as much as they can.

My Project

My Special Education class is starting a new recycling program on our High School campus. My students will dive into the world of recycling. Through this program, my students will learn about the environment and the importance of recycling. They will also learn responsibility in their work roles. Students will have job roles such as sorter, route manager, material handler, and influencers/advertisers.

My students will also have the opportunity for community based instruction where they will learn how to interact with other people in a business setting and how to navigate from point A to point B.

Community based instruction is also important because students will learn how to read street signs and how to walk appropriately and safely in the public streets.
