Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My first grade English language learner students need more tools to help them learn the sounds and words needed to become successful readers. My school is a high poverty school where the kids have very limited background experiences to help them with their education.
An obstacle my students face is that they live in high poverty families where the main job is unskilled laborers and not much emphasis is placed on education. Their parents speak no English or very limited English. As a result, the students receive very little support with their school work and learning English.
Obtaining a set of these Language Cubes will greatly enhance the opportunities my students have in learning sounds and words to become successful in their school careers. My students are first graders and are very tactile in their learning. This Language Cubes set will allow them to be able to manipulate sounds and words in a tactile manner keeping them highly motivated in their learning.
My school is working very hard at raising our test scores and your help will create the foundation we need in order to accomplish our goals. Your help will allow more of my students to achieve grade level so they can be successful when they move on to second grade.
