This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students come from various backgrounds and living situations which, for most individuals, would be a huge impediment for success. Many will be the first to graduate from high school and most the first to go on to college.

Where many see failure I see the possibility of success if only they can be engaged in learning.

They come from an inner city, low income, majority free and reduced lunch school where learning can easily be swept to the side. I see these young, talented, and full of potential students walking in and out of my class day in and day out with their future still open to possibility.

My Project

Our students are required to use digital devices not only in the classroom but also to take mandatory state tests. Both areas require the students to use headphones to listen to information and make critical decisions to answer questions. Being a Title 1 school with a low income population, most students are not able to afford a quality pair of headphones. These headphones need to be able to drown out outside noises and allow them to concentrate on the information they are learning. They require this concentration for high stakes state exams as well as well as virtual labs, informational videos and video lessons/notes.

For these students to be successful in their pursuit of learning and academic success they need to be given the supplies to do so.

Unfortunately, they cost more than can be supplied by the school and the help of the community is greatly needed. A class set of headphones will benefit all the students that pass through the class and the multiple testing groups that happen throughout the year.
