This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a kindergarten teacher in a general education class of 24 students. I want to provide my students with a wonderful learning environment full of hands-on experiences that encourage them to use their creative minds while learning the curriculum and core concepts.

My school is located in a high poverty neighborhood and a lack of funding requires that teachers spend their own money to provide many of the resources for their students.

My students are enthusiastic learners who deserve the best education and materials to support their learning.

My Project

I am asking for an iPod and a player to use during my transitions, language instruction, and music and movement lessons. I love using music to teach rhyming, phonological awareness and phonics, reading comprehension, math concepts, and listening skills. We even listen to CDs that help us learn to spell out our sight words. So as you can see, I am using my CD player throughout the day and changing out my CDs all the time. I have so many wonderful CDs for music, parachute play, bean bag games, and stories and academics, but this week our CD player broke. I am now borrowing one, but I this unfortunate event helped me to think of an idea for a project. I would love to transfer all my wonderful CDs to an iPod and create playlists for all the different subject areas. It would save me time throughout the day and make it much easier for me to take a request from my students rather than searching for a different CD.

Music adds so much to my instructional program.

It crosses all languages and academic levels and brings us together as a class. Music is a fantastic tool in my classroom, helping my students with transitional cues, vocabulary development, story telling. Our music and movement lessons help to break up the whole group lessons that require them to sit on the rug quite awhile. The children could even be able to use the iPod as a listening center! Thank you so much for your generosity and support!
