My students need rhythm sticks, recorders, bells, and instruments from around the world to help them learn about rhythm, composing music, and playing instruments.
The halls are alive. . .with the sound of music! Music is fun an exciting, and so many kids living in poverty don't get the opportunity to experience playing musical instruments. This project would allow me to get the resources to teach my students music in a hands-on way.
My students are 6th graders in a Title I school.
Because this is a Title I school, many of the students' families struggle financially to meet basic needs, so extra-curricular activities, such as music lessons, just aren't readily available to them. Additionally, students today miss out on music programs or get extremely limited music programs because the focus on math and reading dominates everything in school. I want my students to be well-rounded in the arts as well as reading and math.
My Project
Remember the fun in music class when you got to play an instrument, and with the teachers help, what you played sounded great? This is the experience I want to provide my students. With recorders, rhythm sticks, handballs, and instruments from around the world, I'll be able to teach my students about notes, rhythm, how to play songs, and teach my students about how sound works in science. What could be more exciting than that?
Funding this project would ensure that every student in my class this year, and in the years to come, get the opportunity to learn about music by playing it and composing.
This enrichment is particularly critical for low-income students who may not always get this opportunity. Please fill our classroom with the sound of music.
