My Students
Middle School 180 is more than just a place where students learn, it is a place that allows the opportunity to experience their craft. We require all students to participate in a major arts focus for their time with us that can range from band, orchestra, and chorus to film, art, dance, and theater.
Many of these students come from poor neighborhoods and have no idea what to expect when they come to us.
From the second they walk in they are marveled at the facilities. The band and orchestra suite has a locker room for instruments, rehearsal space, and a cello/bass room. The music technology lab has 30 Mac computers with piano keyboards. They know something special awaits them at MS 180 and they cannot wait to be a part of it.
My Project
The materials I am requesting will consist of a class set of warm-up technique books for the band. The books themselves are not that expensive each, but to ask them to purchase more materials becomes problematic when they can barely afford to procure their child an instrument to play in the first place. This class set will stay at the school and only be used in the class. This will allow all 3 grades to utilize them (that's 150 band students!) for not only this year, but years to come.
These books will allow the MS 180 band program to flourish like it never has before.
These books will improve sound, technique, and bring us to a level we would have never dreamed we could achieve. With your help we CAN and WILL achieve, and then some!
