This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Huddled together, giving each other support, these are some of the children in my preschool class as they get ready for graduation. It always amazes me to watch them grow and develop. I teach in a large New York City school. The children come from varied cultural and economic backgrounds. For most of my students, this is their first school experience. They are fearful upon entering the classroom for the first time. The growth academically, socially and emotionally that takes place by the end of the year in each child is astonishing!
They develop a sense of community and a love for learning.
They become cheerleaders for their classmates and themselves. Having developed a love for learning and a respect for others and their differences lays the foundation for the rest of their educational careers. While I am sad to see them go I am excited about the journey that each will be taking.
My Project
Music is a large part of our pre-k classroom. We sing songs to greet each other and to move between different activities. With each new unit comes a new set of educational songs to help us understand what we are learning. We listen to classical music as we rest and during circle time we dance to the songs of many different cultures. Unfortunately, the CD/Cassette players we have in our classroom only work sporadically and are not child-friendly.
By donating to this project you will be helping the children develop literacy skills, learn educational concepts, rest peacefully and understand other cultures.
The first player will be placed in the listening center. The children will listen to books on tape and develop reading readiness skills. The second player will be placed in the music center. The player will be used for group music and movement time, rest time, and free music explorations during center time. The musical instruments and cd's were chosen to enrich our musical experiences. The children enjoy playing instruments as they move and sing to the songs of different cultures. Thank you for helping us use music to enrich the lives of the children in our pre-k class!
