I am a third grade teacher in a small rural school that services children from PreK to fifth grades. I teach all subjects in a self-contained classroom with a full-time assistant and 19 students. This number could increase since we have only been in class for 8 days. My request is for tennis balls for the chair and table legs of our classroom furniture. We were very fortunate last spring to be fitted with new desk and chairs for my classroom. However, since I do not have carpet on my floor this new furniture is making an awful noise. The scrapping and rattling of the chair and table legs is very distracting not to mention the ugly marks that are being left on my worn out tile floors. When we began school on August 4, I asked the parents to furnish at least four tennis balls for their child's desk if possible. I received enough balls to cover the legs of 12 desk only. Therefore, I am asking for 108 tennis balls to put on the legs of the 23 chairs and 9 remaining desks. Having this disturbance taken care of will really help my students to concentrate on their work. Many children have focusing problems and this terrible scraping is extremely annoying to most. The tennis balls also help balance the desk which is often another problem with adjustable furniture. Thank you for considering this grant to help us with, "The Sound of Disturbance!"
