My students in 6th-8th grade have a great time learning to play instruments and working together with their peers. The majority of their parents cannot afford to buy or even rent a band instrument, so our program depends on school-owned instruments.
Playing a band instrument opens doors for my students in our rural, high-poverty area.
They get to go on trips, participate in concerts, and show their pride from performing and marching in parades. I want all the kids in our school to have the opportunity to play an instrument that will afford them the most successful opportunity to pursue their musical dreams!
This saxophone is a student-model instrument that is perfect for the beginner or intermediate student. The saxophone will allow a student to learn practice music, attend rehearsals, and performances. Playing a saxophone will also allow the student an opportunity to earn scholarship money for college, thus giving the student an advantage to get into college.
I teach the kids how to take care of their instruments and how to prevent damage; I help them understand that pride comes after hard work and teamwork.
I love to see the expressions on their faces after they have mastered their first few notes, or have performed well in front of their peers. The more instruments our school owns and loans to our students, the more students can participate in amazing musical experiences.
You can help make this happen! Imagine a student holding a shiny saxophone on stage at a concert, their parents snapping photos. They feel a tremendous amount of pride inside, because of your gift. In turn, this pride is reflected throughout our school and community.
