A day in my classroom begins with my students coming to the front of the classroom for a writers' meeting. It is here on the floor that we huddle together and discuss our trajectory for the day. We go over new writing strategies and hatch plans just as football players in a huddle.
My students are a group of bright individuals who are genuinely interested in this method of writing.
They are always inquisitive and eager to share their opinions, though I sometimes have to remind them that the goal is to put those thoughts on paper! Our school is s Title I school. Many of my students are below the poverty line but they continue to astound me with their work ethic and determination on a daily basis.
My Project
My students would sit on our new rug each day at the beginning of class and we would be able to speak about our writing in a more appropriate setting. I want my students to understand that I value them enough to do everything I can to find the best resources for them. My students will also use the tape to add materials to their writer's notebooks throughout the semester.
Having a new rug in my classroom would improve the outlook of my students when they come to our meeting time each day.
They would be able to see the new rug and we would also be able to fit more students on the rug so that everyone could feel more included. I think getting a new rug would improve the lives of my students because they would understand that these writer's meetings are important enough to warrant a special rug, and they would look forward to that rug time more than they already do.
